Ilford XP2 400 ASA 35mm Black and White Print Film (C41 Process) 135-36 Exposure

  • High speed ISO / ASA 400. Black and white film that uses the very popular C41 colour process to develop into black and white negatives!
  • Using teh colour C41 Process this means you can get this film developed easily and quickly in most high street photo chains.
  • Once developed your negatives could be printed onto colour paper with the aim to achieve black and white results or a colour cast like blue or sepia etc.
  • We would suggest talking to the person printing your film and ask them the results they can offer - if they are worth their salt they can help!
  • Popular choice for photographers who want traditional black and white negatives without the hassle (and cost) of hand processing black and white films.

This is my favouite film, although rated ISO400 it can be shot at 200 for a finer exposure or pushed to 800 for a grittier B&W feel. Regular C41 processing gives a sepia tint although decent developers can output in pure B&W. I tend to have negatives scanned to digital formats these days anyway so that I have more control on the output. Anyway brilliant film, if you want to experiment with B&W or are put off by the silly costs and equipment needed to develop it yourself this is seriously worth a try.

This film is an old favourite from Ilford over many years. It's 400 ISO speed means that it can be used in a wide range of conditions. Results can be of very high definition desite it's high film speed and, if correctly processed as a colour film, it provides good contrast and brilliance. Enlargements can easily be printed up to 16' x 24'. It's purchase will, hopefully, ensure continuity of supply for a few years. Old 35mm cameras will therefore still be able to be used for some time to come. Thankfully, interest in using these old established monochrome films is experiencing a resurgence.
