A reported $300 million was spent by Microsoft during its advertising campaign to launch the then latest version of its operating system.

There was the ad featuring the Rolling Stones’ song Start Me Up – a reference to the start button – and even a 30-minute video with Jennifer Aniston and Matthew Perry of Friends’ fame, according to Wikipedia.
